Fruits remain on the branches past the ripe stage. Ripens from mid-July to mid-August. Vigorous, with few suckers. The North Star cherry is one of its parents.
In 1985, Dr. Cecil Stushnoff and Rick Sawatsky began making crosses with the high quality, cold tolerant cultivar (Zone 4a) ‘North Star’ from Minnesota. These crosses...resulted in the release of the variety ‘SK Carmine Jewel’ in 1999. P. immense (P. fruticosa x P. cerasus).
